Are you a Book Nerd too?

Us writes start out as Book Nerds. We fall in love with the written word and the desire to write our own stories burns within us. Some start writing right away and some of us don’t start writing until later in life. It doesn’t matter when you start just that you do.

But today I want to talk about reading! I’m sure I’ve said it before, I’m an avid reader. I was encouraged to read, to read anything and everything. There was no genre off-limits. If it was on the shelf and I wanted to read it was a go. This was in my teens when I really started to love books. I would go to my library and check out all kinds of different books. Classics like Shakespeare, and Poe. I read a lot of Poe I was Gothic so yeah, don’t judge me.  But I would also delve into fiction in all its genre glory. There was no limit and no one genre. Mysteries, Thrillers, Paranormal Romance, Historical Fiction, horror, and Science Fiction. And so much more. I loved it all and still do.

Over the years I have added to my list of favorite authors and I hope to keep adding to it. Like most kids I read R.L. Stine’s Fear Street and Goosebumps and when I got older I moved on to Stephen King. Mr. King scared the shit out of me and still does and I just delight in his works. My mother is a huge Stephen King fan so his novels where always on the shelf. As was Anne Rice. The Vampire Chronicles have been a favorite of mine that I love to read again and again. Each time feels fresh and vivid. Her prose is unlike any other and I just can’t get over how beautiful the universe she’s created is. And Lestat is such a larger than life Character you almost expect him to leap out of the pages and drag you on an adventure with him. (Yes I was a hard-core Gothic Vampire fan girl) Pst, still am! Latter I would discover Mary Shelley and the Bronte Sisters and other classics that would bring me to my knees and inflame me with a passion to write. All the authors I read do.

A friend would introduce me to Laurell K. Hamilton  author of the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series. This is a Paranormal Romance filled with vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures, and lots of ass kicking and sex! This is my favorite kind of smut. I love these books and will keep on reading as long as Hamilton keeps writing them. The same friend would also put Jacqueline Carey into my hands. She writes wonder series called Kushiel. Kushiel’s Dart, Kushiel’s Avatar, and Kushiel’s Chosen. These are filled with passion, intrigue, mystery, and unexpected love.

But the newest author that I’m obsessed with is Joe Hill. The son of Stephen King, he wrote under the name Hill to see for himself if he had the chops to make it on his own. And he did! His first Novel was Heart Shaped Box. I loved it! The next was Horns and I loved it too. And every one of his books I have loved. He has a book of short stories too, surprise, I love it. I will be collecting his work as long as he keeps then coming.

So you see guys that I am a huge Book Nerd! So from time to time I may write-up little reviews or just talk about what I’m reading and loving.

Tell me what you’re reading, tell me your favorite authors. I’d love to know and try out someone new. And I would also love to know what you think of these authors that I’ve hit on.

Happy reading!

I read Dolores Claireborne and became obsessed with his books! He is and will always be favorite author but the one who comes in second is Harlan coben! I really love his books as well! I started with Missing you and it just got me hooked on his books! After him its Heather Graham. Her books are good containin romance/paranormal stories. Although i will say reading her books are somewhat predictable.

    1. Yes! Another Stephen King fan, its always wonderful to know a fellow Book Nerd that loves the same authors that you do. I’ll have to look up this Heather Graham when next I make a trip to my Library. Have you ever read Laurell K. Hamilton, she’s a paranormal romance author too. Maybe you’ll like her stuff.
